How to Deal with Excavator Smoke?

Smoke from excavator is one of the common faults of excavator. Usually, excavator have white, blue and black smoke. Different colors represent different fault causes. We can judge the cause of machine failure from the color of the smoke.

White smoke

Causes:

1. Cylinder water.

2. Engine cylinder pad damage.

3. Poor atomization of fuel injector and low cylinder pressure.

 Solutions:

Check whether there is water in the diesel, if the white smoke is very short after the excavator is started, this is normal. If the excavator continues to emit white smoke after starting, the oil does not decrease, and the excavator runs weakly, then we should check whether the cylinder head gasket is damaged or check the fuel injector.

Blue smoke

The blue smoke from the excavator is caused by the oil entering the combustion chamber of the cylinder and burning. When the excavator is cold, a layer of oil adheres to the cylinder. After the engine is started, this layer of oil will be burned off and a small amount of blue smoke will be produced, which is normal. However, once there is too much blue smoke, we must check it!

 Solutions:

 1. Check whether the oil grade is suitable and whether the oil level is too high.

 2. Check the fuel injector to see if the atomization is bad or damaged.

 3. Check the piston ring and cylinder wall. If they are worn too much, the gap will become larger, resulting in poor sealing.

 4. Check the valve guide port to see if the oil shield is off or damaged.

 5. Check whether there is a broken cylinder. If one or more cylinders do not work, the oil will be discharged between the piston and the cylinder wall, causing oil in the engine.

Black smoke

Black smoke from the excavator is an external manifestation of insufficient combustion of diesel in the cylinder. There is black smoke when the excavator is just started, and the black smoke gradually disappears after starting for a while, which is normal. If the excavator has been emitting black smoke at work, accompanied by an increase in fuel consumption, it means that the excavator is faulty. It should be checked from three aspects: intake air, diesel quality and fuel injector.

Solution:

1. Check whether the intake valve clearance is within a reasonable range; check whether the air filter element is blocked; check whether the supercharger is damaged. All of the above will lead to insufficient air intake, resulting in low air pressure, insufficient diesel combustion, and black smoke.

2. Check whether the diesel quality is qualified.

3. Check whether the diesel pump and fuel injector are worn, and the fuel injection is too much, resulting in insufficient combustion.

4. If the black smoke is only in bursts, it may be caused by the operator operating the throttle too much.
